Objectives of the Course
|
The course aims to teach the application of fundamental design concepts and principles through two- and three-dimensional design exercises, and to impart an understanding of the design process and design language. Throughout this process, the goal is for students to develop a critical thinking approach, adopt an attitude of inquiry and problem-solving in the design process, and to develop the ability to create alternative solutions. The course aims to develop the ability to create a strong representation of the formal expression of design through abstract and concrete conceptual discussions.

Course Content
|
The course covers two- and three-dimensional, abstract and/or concrete design exercises that incorporate learning by doing within the framework of the fundamental principles of design and theories of perception. Within this framework, two-dimensional design exercises (basic design principles) are explored, which involve the multiple relationships between design elements (basic and complex geometries) and the design field. The course also includes exercises that explore the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional design (relief), a color workshop, and three-dimensional design exercises that cover flat and volumetric forms, color, light and shadow, form/organization.

Course Methods and Techniques
|
The course will be conducted through theoretical presentations, discussions, design exercises and projects that will be completed in the studio and/or as homework assignments, individual and/or group work, and through panel and individual critiques.
